Chapter 26: Zui and Wújìn Enter the Sea

The time had come. The allied forces had regrouped, the leaders had conferred, and the decision was made: to strike directly at the heart of the Sea of Nihility. The mission was fraught with peril, but it was the only way to end the threat of the Devourer once and for all. As the armies of the Infinite Immortal Realms and the Abyss prepared to defend the realms from any further attacks, two figures prepared for a journey that would take them to the very center of the darkness.

Zui Tian and Wújìn Mèng stood side by side on the edge of the battlefield, their gazes fixed on the churning mass of the Sea of Nihility. The once-bright skies above had darkened, the light of the stars swallowed by the ever-encroaching void. The Shield of Aether shimmered faintly, holding back the Sea’s relentless advance, but even its great power could only delay the inevitable.

Zui Tian, his carefree demeanor masking the seriousness of the situation, took a long swig from his Endless Wine Flask and let out a deep breath. “Well, Big Sis, looks like we’ve got a date with the dark stuff. You ready?”

Wújìn Mèng, her expression calm and composed, nodded. “We’ve prepared as much as we can. The rest will depend on what we find within the Sea. The Devourer’s essence is there, waiting for us. We must sever its connection to the Sea if we’re to stop it.”

Zui Tian’s grin widened. “Then let’s get going. The sooner we deal with this, the sooner we can get back to enjoying a nice drink in peace.”

With that, Zui Tian took a step forward, his body beginning to blur as he drew upon the power of the Aether. His form shifted and expanded, taking on a more ethereal quality as he prepared to enter the Sea. Wújìn Mèng followed suit, her body surrounded by a soft, golden light that contrasted with the darkness that lay ahead.

Together, the two siblings floated above the battlefield, their combined power radiating outwards in waves. The allied forces watched in awe and trepidation as the two figures, embodiments of both creation and destruction, prepared to face the greatest threat the realms had ever known.

As they hovered above the ground, the Shield of Aether began to part, opening a narrow passage through which they could enter the Sea of Nihility. The passage was small and precarious, the dark waters of the Sea swirling menacingly on either side. But the Shield held firm, allowing them safe passage.

Zui Tian, always the first to take action, grinned at his sister. “After you, Big Sis.”

Wújìn Mèng gave him a small, knowing smile and stepped through the passage first, her form becoming a streak of light as she entered the Sea. Zui Tian followed close behind, his own form shimmering as he crossed the threshold into the heart of the darkness.

The moment they entered, the Sea of Nihility closed around them, the passage sealing itself shut. The light of the Shield of Aether was left behind, and they were plunged into a world of utter darkness, where even the concept of time seemed to dissolve.

The Sea of Nihility was unlike anything they had encountered before. It was a place where the rules of reality did not apply, where the very fabric of existence was stretched thin, and where the boundaries between life and death, creation and destruction, were blurred beyond recognition. The dark waters churned endlessly, filled with the latent energy of the Devourer’s will.

Zui Tian and Wújìn Mèng moved cautiously through the void, their senses heightened by the unfamiliar environment. Every movement felt heavy, as though the darkness itself was pressing down on them, trying to drag them deeper into the abyss. But they pressed on, their goal clear in their minds.

“We need to find the core,” Wújìn Mèng said, her voice steady despite the oppressive atmosphere. “The essence of the Devourer is here, hidden within the Sea. If we can reach it and sever its connection, the Sea will collapse in on itself.”

Zui Tian nodded, his grin replaced by a look of determination. “Let’s get to it, then. The sooner we find that core, the sooner we can put an end to this.”

As they delved deeper into the Sea, the darkness around them seemed to grow more intense. Strange, shadowy forms drifted through the void, remnants of the Minions of Nihility that had been created by the Devourer’s will. These forms seemed to watch the siblings as they passed, their eyeless faces turned towards the intruders with a silent, malevolent intent.

But Zui Tian and Wújìn Mèng were undeterred. They moved with purpose, their senses finely attuned to the presence of the Devourer’s essence. They could feel it, a pulsing, throbbing energy that resonated with the same dark power they had faced on the battlefield. It was a beacon in the void, drawing them ever closer to the heart of the Sea.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity of drifting through the darkness, they arrived at the core. It was a swirling vortex of energy, a mass of black and white intermingled, throbbing with the essence of the Devourer. The power that radiated from it was overwhelming, a force that threatened to consume everything in its path.

Zui Tian whistled softly, his eyes narrowing as he took in the sight. “Well, there it is. The heart of the beast.”

Wújìn Mèng nodded, her expression resolute. “This is where we make our stand. We need to act quickly before the Devourer can react.”

Zui Tian drew his sword, the blade gleaming with a light that seemed to cut through the darkness. “You do your thing, Big Sis. I’ll keep the nasty stuff off our backs.”

Wújìn Mèng smiled at her brother’s confidence and raised her hands, her golden light intensifying as she began to weave her spell. The air around them crackled with energy as she channeled the power of the Aether, preparing to sever the connection between the core and the Sea.

But the Devourer was not about to let them succeed without a fight.

As Wújìn Mèng began her spell, the darkness around them surged to life. The shadowy forms that had been drifting through the void suddenly converged on their position, drawn by the power of the core. They moved with terrifying speed, their forms shifting and warping as they closed in on the siblings.

Zui Tian, his sword at the ready, stepped forward to intercept them. With a powerful swing, he unleashed a wave of energy that tore through the shadowy forms, scattering them like dust in the wind. But more kept coming, their numbers seemingly endless.

Wújìn Mèng focused on her spell, her hands moving in intricate patterns as she channeled the golden light into the core. The energy crackled and sparked, and the core began to react, its throbbing pulse growing erratic as the connection to the Sea was strained.

Zui Tian fought off the shadowy attackers with all his might, his movements a blur as he cut down wave after wave of the Devourer’s minions. The darkness pressed in from all sides, but he held his ground, determined to protect his sister while she completed her spell.

Finally, with a final, powerful incantation, Wújìn Mèng unleashed the full force of her spell. The golden light surged forward, striking the core with a blinding intensity. The connection between the core and the Sea began to unravel, the dark energy fraying and dissipating as the spell took hold.

The core let out a final, anguished pulse, and then, with a deafening roar, it collapsed in on itself. The swirling mass of energy imploded, the darkness consuming itself as the connection was severed. The Sea of Nihility, now without its guiding force, began to lose its cohesion, the dark waters dissipating into the void.

Zui Tian, breathing heavily from the exertion, watched as the Sea of Nihility began to fade. The shadowy forms that had been attacking them dissolved into nothingness, their existence tied to the now-collapsing core.

Wújìn Mèng lowered her hands, the golden light around her dimming as the spell completed its work. She looked at her brother, a tired but satisfied smile on her face. “It’s done.”

Zui Tian grinned, sheathing his sword. “You did it, Big Sis. The Sea is done for.”

As the last remnants of the Sea of Nihility faded into the void, the siblings felt a sense of calm wash over them. The battle was won, but the war was not yet over. The Devourer of Nihility still existed, somewhere beyond the void, waiting for its next opportunity to strike.

But for now, they had dealt a significant blow to its power. The Sea of Nihility, the Devourer’s greatest weapon, had been neutralized. The realms were safe—for the moment.

Zui Tian and Wújìn Mèng emerged from the Sea of Nihility, their faces grim and their once unstoppable aura dimmed by the realization of the Devourer’s immeasurable strength. Despite their formidable power—power born from the Aether of Oblivion itself—they had come face-to-face with the reality that even they were no match for the Devourer, who had grown far stronger during its long period of retreat. The power the Devourer wielded was beyond anything they had encountered, far surpassing what they could have anticipated.

As they approached the Shield of Aether, the armies of the Immortal Realms and Abyssal Realm waited anxiously for news of victory. The sight of Zui Tian and Wújìn Mèng, two of the most powerful beings in existence, returning from the heart of the Sea of Nihility should have been cause for celebration. Yet, as the siblings landed before the assembled forces, there was no triumph in their eyes—only the weight of a grim stalemate.

The Immortal Emperor, his posture tense, stepped forward. “What news do you bring? Has the threat been neutralized?”

Wújìn Mèng glanced at her brother, her expression betraying a mixture of frustration and quiet acceptance. She was the first to speak, her voice calm but filled with a sorrow that none had ever heard from her before. “The Devourer of Nihility has grown too powerful. Even with the combined strength of the Aether, Zui and I could not defeat it. The Sea of Nihility is held back for now, but it will continue to press against the Shield of Aether, looking for a way to break through.”

The Abyssal Master’s dark eyes narrowed. “The Shield holds, but for how long?”

Zui Tian, ever the jester even in the face of overwhelming odds, took a swig from his Endless Wine Flask and let out a half-hearted laugh. “As long as Wújìn and I are alive, the Shield will hold. But that’s not good news for anyone who enjoys breathing, now, is it?”

The Immortal Emperor and Abyssal Master exchanged uneasy glances. They both knew that such a stalemate was a temporary solution at best—and disastrous at worst. The Devourer would eventually find a way to breach the Shield, or worse, the realms themselves would unravel under the immense pressure being exerted on their very fabric.

As the leaders of the realms stood in deep contemplation, searching for a solution to the impending disaster, something unexpected happened. A shadowed figure appeared at the edge of the gathering, its presence unnoticed until it stepped forward into the light.

This figure, who had followed Zui Tian through countless eras, listening to his tales and walking in his footsteps, now stood before them all. The figure’s eyes glowed with an ancient, hidden knowledge, and as it spoke, its voice resonated with a power that commanded the attention of even the mightiest beings present.

“I have a solution,” the shadowed figure said, its voice calm but laced with a depth of authority that stunned even the Immortal Emperor and the Abyssal Master. “Dimensional Extermination.”

The phrase sent a ripple of shock through the crowd. Even Wújìn Mèng, who rarely displayed outward emotion, raised an eyebrow in surprise. Zui Tian, however, looked at the shadowed figure with a glimmer of recognition in his eyes.

“Dimensional Extermination…” Zui muttered, half to himself. “So that’s what you’re after all this time, eh? Listening to my drunken ramblings paid off, didn’t it?”

The Abyssal Master and the Immortal Emperor stood in stunned silence, their disbelief palpable. The idea that another being—more powerful than them—had suddenly appeared out of nowhere was almost too much to comprehend. Yet, the aura of the shadowed figure was unmistakable. This was no ordinary entity; it was someone—or something—far beyond their understanding.

The shadowed figure continued, ignoring the reactions of the onlookers. “The Devourer’s power is tied to the dimensional fabric of existence itself. The only way to sever that connection is through a complete dimensional annihilation—an ethereal storm that will erase everything within its radius. It will destroy the Devourer’s influence… but it will also destroy the Shield of Aether.”

At the mention of the Shield of Aether, Zui Tian’s expression darkened. He had known, deep down, that there might come a time when the Shield would need to be sacrificed. He recalled the words of the Spirit of Aether, who had gifted them with the piece of Aether that had been forged into the shield. The Spirit had warned them: this piece of Aether would either destroy or save the realms.

And now, it seemed the moment of decision had arrived.

Wújìn Mèng turned to Zui, her voice quiet but firm. “If we destroy the Shield, we’ll be leaving the realms exposed. The Devourer’s minions could return. Are you sure this is the right path?”

Zui Tian remained silent for a moment, his gaze distant. He knew what needed to be done, but the weight of the decision was immense. Finally, he looked at his sister and smiled, though there was a sadness in his eyes.

“It’s the only way,” he said softly. “The Spirit of Aether told us that this piece of Aether could either save or destroy everything. If we don’t act now, the Devourer will eventually break through, and we won’t be able to stop it. We need to unleash the full power of the Aether—no half measures.”

Wújìn Mèng’s eyes flickered with understanding, but she did not argue. She had always trusted her brother’s instincts, even when he appeared carefree or reckless. This time was no different. But before she could respond, Zui Tian’s expression hardened with resolve.

“I’ll be the one to do it,” Zui said, his voice leaving no room for debate. “I won’t let you be the sacrifice, Big Sis. You’ve done more than enough. Besides, you’re the smart one—you’ll figure out how to rebuild after all this.”

Wújìn Mèng’s eyes widened in surprise, and for the first time in many eras, a flicker of fear crossed her face. “Zui, no—”

But Zui Tian cut her off with a wave of his hand, his smile returning as he took another swig of wine. “Don’t worry, Big Sis. I’ve got this. You know I’ve always been the one to dive headfirst into trouble. It’s my specialty.”

The Immortal Emperor, who had been listening in stunned silence, finally found his voice. “Zui Tian, you can’t… if you destroy the Shield of Aether, you’ll—”

“I know what I’m doing, Emperor,” Zui interrupted, his tone unusually serious. “I’m the one who messed things up by not finishing off the Devourer when I had the chance all those eras ago. This is my responsibility. My mess to clean up.”

Wújìn Mèng stepped forward, her voice filled with quiet desperation. “Zui, please. We’ll find another way. We can—”

“There is no other way,” Zui said, his voice soft but resolute. He looked into his sister’s eyes, the sadness in his gaze finally breaking through his carefree mask. “This is the only way to save the realms. And I won’t let you take the fall for it.”

With that, Zui Tian turned his gaze back to the shadowed figure, his resolve clear. “Tell me how to do it. How do we trigger the Dimensional Extermination?”

The shadowed figure nodded, a silent understanding passing between them. “The core of the Aether Shield contains the energy you need. By releasing that energy in a controlled explosion, you will create a dimensional storm powerful enough to eradicate the Devourer’s influence. But know this—once you begin, there will be no turning back. The destruction will be absolute.”

Zui Tian grinned, though the weight of his decision hung heavy on him. “Sounds like a hell of a party. Let’s get this over with.”

As Zui Tian stepped toward the Shield of Aether, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice, Wújìn Mèng watched him with a heavy heart. She knew there was no stopping him now, but the pain of losing her brother—the one constant in her endless life—was almost too much to bear.

Zui Tian, sensing her thoughts, turned back one last time and winked. “Don’t worry, Big Sis. I’ll save you a seat at the bar in the afterlife. Just don’t drink all the wine before I get there.”
